Ellsworth Under the Stars

Announcing the 2010 Ellsworth Under the Stars Outdoor Cinema

"To have outdoor cinema underneath the stars is going to allow my young children to appreciate this strong community, beautiful surroundings and arts in the Ellsworth area.

"I can just imagine a movie playing on the big inflatable screen as my children lie immersed in the open air.

"Free family entertainment is so essential to bringing people together. In any economy, collective experiences like this are priceless in how they build morale and build community."

Ellsworth's Outdoor Cinema is back this summer. In Downtown Ellsworth at the Knowlton School on Thursday nights July 15th through August 26th at sunset.

New for 2010: Read about Ellsworth's Outdoor Cinema on The Ellsworth American. Also watch the setting up of the giant cinema here.

Live music before the Cinema. Spread the word - if there is any local talent that would like to perform while we wait for the skies to darken to start the movie - send them our way.

Movies are shown by donation. Your contributions are very much appreciated and will help keep the cinema alive.

What is it?

The Cinebox system was purchased from Open Air Cinema and is designed to be portable. It consists of an inflatable screen, speakers and a console housing a projector and dvd player. It is possible to connect a laptop or WII for multimedia presentations or WII tournaments. The screen inflates to 16' x 9' and is suitable for up to 250 viewers.

Family Entertainment

We will continue to show family friendly movies (G and PG rated) for our Thursday night screenings. In 2010 we may have some additional special events for adult audiences.

Support the Cinema

The outdoor cinema is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and individual donors. Our sponsors: Pyramid Studios Jewelry Design, Summerfly Productions, The City of Ellsworth Parks and Recreation Commission, Bangor Savings Bank, WNSX 97.7 Radio and The Grand.

Fund raising continues to finance the purchase of the Open Air Cinema. Community support is important to keep the Cinema project going. To become a business sponsor or to make a donation. We are still $6,000 short of our 2009 fundraising goal. If you can help

In kind sponsorships are also gratefully accepted. Water, soda, concessions, equipment for our 2010 live music... Last year, Amici's Restaurant from Downtown Ellsworth donated pizza!

Volunteer

Volunteers for a variety of tasks such as setup, takedown and cleanup on movie nights would be much appreciated. Assistance planning and presenting Cinema fund raising events or grant writing assistance is welcome. Local musicians who would like to showcase a few songs would be a great prelude for the Thursday night movie. See Ben or Denise on Thursday nights or email us.

A Community Resource

The Outdoor Cinema can be used in many ways for various community and arts related events. Some suggestions received so far include a WII tournament, a multi-media show featuring local musicians and artists, shorts by Maine film students and not for profit fund raisers. Please contact Ben or Denise if you are interested in helping to sponsor or present a show.
